A lot has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the web version of this traditional game present a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its real life kin?
Bingo is an classic game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored places where people like to smoke.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this classic game?
The answer is online. Players realise that they can participate in bingo using their computer while enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the law has left a good many bingo players with no choice.
