Much has been reported in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But can the web variation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or will it never compare to its real life relative?
Bingo is an classic game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around Britain.
No more will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where players enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Surely they have not forgotten this enduring game?
The answer is on the net. People know that they can gamble on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course gambling on on the internet can never replace the social part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
