A lot has been stated in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax breaks to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the internet adaptation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an age old game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law across United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is online. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the internet could never replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left many bingo players with no alternative.
