A lot has been written in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt because of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry alive. But will the online version of this classic game present a salvation, or will it never compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo has been an age old game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls in place of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban across Britain.
No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people enjoy smoking.
The results of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t abandoned this ancient game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers are now realizing that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course betting on online is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
