Much has been stated in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However does the internet adaptation of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo has been an classic game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the legislating of the smoking ban across Britain.

No more will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. Players realize that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the net can never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
