Much has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the web variation of this quintessential game offer a salvation, or will it not compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo is an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had experienced a recent return in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the cigarette ban throughout Britain.

No more will players be able to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common places where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
