A lot has been written in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry singing the blues because of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?
Bingo is an established game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls rather than the bars on a weekend. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over Britain.
No more will gamblers be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favored areas where many people like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this ancient game?
The answer is online. Players know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course betting on on the internet could never replace the social part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the law has left a good many bingo players with little choice.
